Audio
Tempo and key are worked out on your device from the last few seconds of sound. Audio is held in memory only while it's being analyzed. It isn't recorded, saved or uploaded.
- Mac and Windows read the sound your computer is playing. They don't use the microphone.
- iPhone listens through the microphone, only while the app is analyzing.
Song recognition
When a player doesn't give a track title, KeyBee can identify the song. It sends a short audio fingerprint — not the recording — and gets back the title, artist and artwork. On Mac and iPhone this goes through Apple's ShazamKit. On Windows it goes to the Shazam service. You can turn song recognition off in settings.
Track titles from players
On Mac, KeyBee asks apps like Spotify and Music for the current title and artwork. On Windows it reads the system's media controls. This stays on your device; artwork images are downloaded from the address the player provides.
History
Readings and track titles you see in the history are stored on your device only. They leave it only when you copy or export them.
Updates and diagnostics
- Mac checks the App Store for a newer version. Mac and iPhone update through the App Store.
- Windows downloads
releases/latest.jsonfrom this site to check for updates, and the installer from this site when you update. - On Mac, crash reports from Apple are saved on your device. They're sent only if you choose “Send diagnostics”, which opens an email you can review.
